[The beginning of this sermon was not recorded] This text is John’s famous prologue, which tells us 3 things about Jesus: 1) Who he is – the eternal, fully divine, Son of God, who became flesh and dwelt among us; 2) Why he came – to bring light into darkness and life into death; and 3) How the world responded – ultimately, there are only 2 responses to Jesus: acceptance or rejection. Though he came to “his own” who should have recognized him, he was rejected. But, to those who received him, he gave the greatest of privileges – to become the children of God.
